These systems typically require compatible boots to function properly; for example, Burton’s Step On system needs Step On boots with heel and toe cleats that connect to corresponding hardware on the bindings. The BOA Fit System has emerged as an industry standard, providing a quick and easy twist-to-tighten feature. It includes a knob (called the Coiler™) positioned on the front or side of the boot, which adjusts the tightness using cables or ropes routed inside the boot shell. To tighten the laces, just twist the knob, and to loosen them, simply pull the coiler out.
